Winning Makes Everything Better

Good morning, Kitschies!!

I took too many of these last night...

So I'm moving a little slow this morning.  To make myself happier and forget about the hurt for a bit, I want to announce a *winner*!

The winner of the Zoya polishes provided by Verve 360 salon has been chosen!!  Out of 108 valid entries, who has already responded to her congrats email and chosen by random.org (which picked #35) was...

Thank you to everybody who entered!!  Keep an eye out for another giveaway coming up soon. :)

And the Wiener Is...

Happy weekend, Kitschies!!  I hope you're enjoying your (3-day?) weekend.  We've been busy around the house cleaning and doing laundry.  We went to my nephew's 7th b-day party today - it was a lot of fun and now the boys are pooped!!

I finally remembered that I had to post the winner of my "Just Because I Can" giveaway.  Slacker, I know.  So, anyway....here we go.

After 58 people and 137 entries, I plugged the numbers in to random.org and came up with a winner.  And the winner is...

Yeah...that doesn't tell you much, does it?  Here...is this better?

Ms Naomi is the WINNER!!  I'm not sure if she has a blog because her profile is set to private.  So, congrats to Naomi!  You have 72 hours to contact me (megharmeyer@gmail.com) with your shipping information.  If don't hear from Naomi in the allotted amount of time, I'll pick another winner.  Thank you to everybody who entered - I've picked up a couple new bands to listen to!!

Who is it? Who is it?!

The holiday weekend is almost over.  It feels like it's lasted forever for some reason, and not necessarily in a bad way.  And after all the prep work, Thanksgiving was here and gone in a blink of an eye.  Why does it always work like that?

The hubs had to work Friday, but I was home with the boys.  I managed to capture this cute picture of Mason (almost 18 months) and Nate (4+ years) playing...together.  It's so sweet to see them playing together.  And then Mason usually knocks over Nate's tower and it's over as fast as it began.  LOL

Anyway...my Thank You For Being My Friend giveaway closed last night!  You know what that means?  That means we have a WINNER!!!  Bet you wanna know who it is, don't ya?  Well...after going through 115 comments that produced 192 entries, I went to random.org and plugged in the numbers.  The winner of the giveaway is...wait for it...wait...for...it...

Congrats to Kris!!  If you haven't seen her site Lacquer Wear for Tips and Toes, you should definitely check it out.  Kris does some wicked frankens (some of which she's giving away!).  Dood!  I just realized I spelled Lacquer wrong in the pic.  *sigh*  That's what happens when you put something like that together after midnight.  AND...she has a great food blog, too.

Thank you to everyone who entered.  I'm sorry I'm not able to do giveaways more frequently, but I try to make them that much more special when I do host one.  I really do appreciate all of my followers and if you're new, I hope you've liked what you've seen and decided to stick around.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.  I have quite a few recipes and a couple manis on deck.  Now I just have to prep all the pics.  Good times.

I Got Mail!

FINALLY!!!  We made it through the work week.  I don't know about you, but this week was particularly draining.  But it's not like the weekend is going to be much easier.  We have my nephew's birthday party tomorrow morning.  The hubs is helping his dad move his office back to his house and then going to Planet Ego for the monthly "Power Summit" (read: hide out from the wives day).  Sunday is a co-worker's daughter's birthday party in the afternoon.  I don't know about the kids, but I can tell I'll be ready for a nap!

I can say, though, that there was one definite bright spot in the week.  On Thursday, the mail man delivered an awesome package to me at work!  A couple weeks ago I found out that I had won a giveaway hosted by the lovely Kayla at Glamorous Geek Chic.  I signed up for her giveaway as fast as my little fingers could take me.  She was giving away 4 OPI polishes from the Fall collection and 6 (that's *half*) of the ChG Vintage Vixen collection (and it's the 6 that didn't suck, imho).  Take a looksee...
After fending off the nosy vultures at work, I unwrapped all the bottles to drool over their gorgeousness.  Each bottle was wrapped in bubble wrap - I appreciate the time she took to wrap all those because they arrived at my desk unscathed (until the nosy vultures got hold of them, anyway).
These close pics are in no way color accurate.  The first picture is a little better.  These are my first OPI polishes and I cannot wait to use them!  From back to front: Ski Teal We Drop, Yodel Me On My Cell, Diva of Geneva, and William Tell Me About OPI.  I get that OPI has cutesy little names, but some of them are pretty ridiculous.  But, it's their *thing*.
Ah...the ChG Vintage Vixen collection.  There's 12 in the collection, but I really can do without the others (except Foxy, but I already picked that one up).  If you click on the pic, you can see the names below the colors.  I'm excited about Swing Baby because I think it'll be perfect for stamping.

While I was out at lunch, I had to swing by CVS for something (don't even remember what it was at this point) and I *had* to check out their Confetti display.  I've heard that Confetti might be going away in the not so distant future, so I had to add a couple to my little collection that was started on my birthday, thanks to my bestie!
Click on the pics to make it bigger and to see the names.  Masquerade is a gorgeous deep burgundy sparkle in a dark base; Blue Bombshell reminds me a LOT of SH Blu (hence the restraining order); Smitten is packed with purple and blue sparkle.  Oh, and these are only $2, each.  The only drawback to some of these is that the brushes aren't always in the greatest shape.  It's like the brush is too long for the bottle and gets misshapen as a result.  Either way, it's two buck - I'm not going to complain (much).

Winning the giveaway was easy.  Now comes the hard part.  Which awesome Fall color do I chose first?  If you take a look at the upper right sidebar, you'll see there's a poll.  That's right!  I want YOU to pick for me.  Whatever the winner is by the end of the polling period, that's the one I'll wear and share on my blog.  I'm horrible at making decisions...and now I don't have to.

Have a wonderful weekend, my dear Kitschies!  If you dream tonight, I hope you have color dreams of Fall.

And the Oscar goes to...

Happy weekend, my dear Kitschies!!  I hope you've had a great one so far.  Instead of the lake, we decided to go on a couple little hikes in the Sandia today.  It was nice and cool up in the mountains - it was a shame we had to come back home to 90+ degree heat.  We got lots of cute pictures, which I'll post in the near future.  Tonight I went grocery shopping (WOOT!  I'm living the dream!) only to be held up for about 20 minutes waiting in line for a sobriety checkpoint.  It hadn't started too long before I got there but they already had 5 or 6 cars pulled over.  They didn't even check me!  *sigh*  Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they're doing the checkpoints, but I was grocery shopping for gosh sakes!  Either way, I made it home and now I'm ready for bed.  But I have a lot of stuff to do around the house since we weren't home all day.  Joy.

Anyway...it's the post you've all been waiting for!  I received 18 entries for the CSN Stores gift card.  I used random.org to pick a number.  That number was 12.  And do you want to know who number 12 was?

Ms Kimberly is the owner of a great blog: Libby's Pink Vanity.  I hope she enjoys the $40 gift card to CSN Stores.  I want to know what you pick out!  Drop me a line at megharmeyer @ gmail . com so I can give you the details.

There ya have it!  I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend.  The hubs is in the kitchen crafting an awesome birthday cake for me.  I'll definitely be posting pictures sometime soon.  Also keep an eye out for another giveaway from me (I've surpassed my 100-follower mark).  Happy blogging!

Once Upon A Time

...this girl had more time on her hands than she knew what to do with. Now? Notsomuch. When I started this blog just a few months ago, I wondered how I was *ever* going to be able to come up with enough stuff to "talk" about. But here I am, with a backlog of stuff to post. How does that happen? So...happy Thursday, my dear, dear readers!!

A couple weeks ago, I won a giveaway hosted by AllYouDesire. She posted a pic of a beautiful Dior polish in Vibrant Mauve. I saw the pic and thought "I must have this!", so I signed up for her giveaway. Well, surprise, surprise! I won!! A little while later (not exactly sure just how long - but it did come all the way from the Czech Republic) I got a bubble mailer with my pretty, pretty polish. I was so excited because the color is SOOO pretty in the bottle. Purple, pink, blue, grey, pearl shimmer. Even the box was pretty! Gorgeous iridescent with so many pastel glowing colors!

It really is a pretty color - in the bottle. This is at least 3, if not 4 coats and there's still VNL. The application was perfect and the color wasn't even streaky (even for a pearl). The brush is nice and wide, which I like. I'm not usually one to complain about VNL, but I was hoping this one would be just a little more opaque. I think it would take at least a couple more coats to be totally opaque. Pearl polishes are always so pretty in the bottle and I'm always so disappointed once I apply them. I just am not a pearl person - no matter how many times I try. And in this case, I'm not a sheer person, either (I know you agree Nailstah!). I try. But I'm just not. Meh. So, there ya have it! Not my color but now I can say I own a Dior polish (I really don't see myself buying any polish at $23 a pop!).

Here's my question to you, my dear readers. Are there any colors, finishes, etc, that you totally WANT to love but just DON'T?

Challenge accepted!

Be not afraid of growing slowly, be afraid only of standing still.
Chinese proverb

Good evening, Kitschies! Only 1 more day stands between us and the weekend. What are your plans for the weekend?

Earlier this week, I was trolling the blogs and I came across Polish Hoarder Disorder (PHD) blog. Not only does she do awesome nails herself, she challenges her fellow followers to flex their creative muscle. I took a look at the challenge galleries and thought: "I wanna do that!" And, as luck would have it, the current challenge is patriotic themed (read: right up my alley). If you hurry, you can enter your submission, too - but you've gotta do it fast because entries close tomorrow (6/11) at midnight CST! You know you want to do it!! Anyway..I went home that night, took stock of the polish I had and proceeded to create my submission. I did the left hand with no problem, but ran in to a brain block with what to do with the right hand. That's where the hubs stepped in an made a suggestion to mix it up a bit. I haven't done a whole lot of nail art before, so it's a little rough, but I like how it turned out. Here's my patriotic submission to PHD's patriotic challenge.

Left hand - freehand stars

Right hand - freehand stripes

See the nubbins on the right hand :*(

What I used
What I used (L-R): Sinful Colors in Midnight Blue (at least 5 years old - see the old style bottle?), Art Deco nail art in silver and ChG in Vertical Rush. All the colors are shimmer - I love Vertical Rush; it's such a deep (but bright) red and the blue was a great compliment to the red, just the right shade and shimmer.

I got a few comments/compliments on this mani. People mostly said it was too late for Memorial Day and too early for 4th of July. So what? Can't a girl practice? LOL I'm really looking forward to seeing the other submissions because the other challenges have produced some really cool results.

While I was on vacation, my BFF texted me early one morning to tell me that I'd won a giveaway. What?! I don't win those things!! I logged on and saw that I had won Libby's Pink Vanity's 50 Follower Giveaway. I was pretty excited because there were quite a few things in there that I had my eye on. I got the package of goodies yesterday at work, but I waited to open it until I got home. And look what I found...

The theme was pink!

But she threw in a bunch of other goodies, too!

The whole haul

I now have my first Color Club polish (and what a great color, too)!! And now I have another holo (woot!), a bottle of SH Hidden Treasure, a handful of new polishes (some colors I would've never gotten myself), new mascara, lipstick, blush, foundation, lip balm, lip liner, makeup case, body wash and lotion (smells yum) and an Adidas t-shirt (I love red and black together). I was so excited about the Color Club polish (She's So Glam) that I took off my patriotic challenge mani and did a new one! I'll blog about that one in a couple days. If you haven't checked out Libby's Pink Vanity, you definitely should - she does some cute nail art she's got the DL on a lot of giveaways. Stop by and tell her Kitschy Suburbia sent you!

I think that's about it for this evening, my lovely readers. If there's anything you'd like me to talk about (a recipe with a certain ingredient, a specific color of polish, family life), lemme know and I'll do my best to answer your request. Have a great evening and enjoy your FRIDAY!!

Drumroll please!

Happy Friday, Kitschies!!

We're heading in to a long Memorial Day weekend. WOO HOO!! I hope all of you have a great weekend - be safe!! And if you see a man or woman in uniform, be sure to thank them for keeping us safe in this great country of ours.

Thank you to every one of you who follow my blog. And an especially big thank you to those of you who comment - I love reading what you have to say! So, without further adieu...

I went to random.org and used their random number generator and the number it presented was 3. That means the winner of my first giveaway is...drumroll please...

Congrats, Ms Jen!! I will be sending you an email this morning - be sure to respond so I can get your goodies out to you ASAP. I will be hosting another giveaway in the near future...check back often!! I don't know how much I'll be posting in the coming week. I am on VACATION!! My parents and sister are coming to visit; my baby turns 1; DH and I get to escape sans kids for 2 whole nights (the first since before the kids were born)!! But don't fret my dear Kitschies. There will be plenty to post about once I'm back to the grind.
