I'm Still Alive

Helllllooooo, Kitschies!!  Hold on to your hats.  It's going to be a long one...

Have you forgotten about me?  I haven't forgotten about you...promise!!  I can't believe my last post was in MARCH...where has the time gone?!  I have been really super busy with...life...but I'm taking a break and going to get you caught up a little on what I've been doing.

And before I forget...thank you to those of you who've sent me emails recently.  It's you who've *inspired* me to post tonight.  As always, all pictures are click-able to make big-able!

So...last time we talked, I was getting ready for my first derby bout.  That was March 19th.  The season opener was a blast!  We had a packed house and DIA (my team) won their first bout.

That's me (in front) and Carson B Demented (our team captain).  Man...that first bout...I just felt lost through the whole thing.  Well, the first half, anyway.  Then just before the first half was over, I jacked my knee and had to sit out the rest of the time.

I believe this was during the intros...they pronounced my name (Sinestra) wrong...they always do.  LOL

Me after my first bout.  I wish I could've skated more but there was no way my knee was going to cooperate for that!  After about 2 weeks of rest, I was back on my skates, ready for another go at it!

I don't have many other pics of anything else in March.  Oh!  Easter!  Or was that April?  Either way...here's a few from Easter.

I love all three of those pictures!  We had Easter at my MIL's house - always good food...always a good time!

We took the boys to ABQ Jump for Mother's Day...and even I got to jump!  We had a nice lunch and the kids had fun and that's what really matters.

Nate graduated from Kindergarten in May, too!  Awww...my little Monkey is growing up so fast!  They had a cute little ceremony for all the "graduates".  I remember his first day like it was just a month ago...next thing I know, he'll be graduating from high school.  *sigh*

We had our second bout on May 19th - there weren't as many people but we skated great!  I didn't feel like I was completely lost the second time around and my knees held up.  I even got a couple of good blocks in there!  Oh...and we beat the HoBots.  Yay!

This is my current favorite picture of the boys.  It's so hard to get them to settle down long enough for a good picture, but I lucked out on this one!

We celebrated Mason's 3rd birthday on Memorial Day weekend because I was out of town on his actual birthday.  We had family and friends gather at a park and had cupcakes to celebrate!

And...I think you're up to date.  The hubs and his hetero life partner have their first ever COMICS booth at Albuquerque Comic Expo this weekend!  This is at least 15 (probably more like 20) years in the making.  I am proud of them for finally getting their stuff together and presenting their baby to the world!  I can't wait to see how it goes.

I've still been doing my nails and take pictures from time to time, but I haven't done any prepping.  Maybe some day (soon) I'll post a "highlights" post of the best ones from the last few months.

I promise not to be gone so long this time.  And I need to give my blog a facelift.  It hasn't felt like winter here in New Mexico in a long, long time!!

Laters babe.

I'm Baaaaack...Sorta

Good morning, Kitschies.  Long time, no post, huh?  I returned from my vacay with my family late last week.  I had a great time (GREAT time!) and I was sad to come back to Albuquerque.  I came back to a very excited 5-year-old who proceeded to Velcro himself to my arse the following day.  It's nice to know I was missed, but c'mon!  LOL  Anyway...I'm back in to the routine, but...and this is a *big* but...I exploded my computer at home yesterday.  *sigh*  I'm only connected at work now and it sucks.  Seriously.

So, I don't have much of a post for you today.  I do, however, have a few pics to share with you.  The biggest reason I went to Cali was to participate in the Walk to Defeat ALS.  My mom was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gherig's disease) 10 years ago.  She is doing remarkably well considering ALS is usually terminal within 3 years (average), so every moment we get to spend with her is a blessing.  I hate when we miss the walk and the hubs could tell I was getting depressed over it, so he told me I should go.  Let me tell you...I am so glad I did!  So. glad.

All pics are clickable for better viewing.  This is part of the gang - family and friends.  Oh!  And I even got to skate the walk!  More on that in a second.

I got to take Mason with me - he had a blast with everybody (even though he was being insanely shy that morning).  Mason found a buddy with my dad (Beba) - they both loved it!

My mom and Mason.  For some reason, it was all Mason could do to keep from smiling.  Silly boy!

Auntie Chicken with Mason.  I wish she could've stayed home longer but a double-header softball game called her and Uncle Ryan away the next day.

The night of the walk, we had a BBQ at my parents house.  It was much warmer than we're used to this time of year and Mason was all sweaty!  LOL

While I was there, I was able to skate the walk which was a nice bit of exercise.  But...I managed to break a toe and let me tell you it sucks.  It hurts.  A lot.  I wasn't even doing anything exciting - I was going over to pick Mason up out of a chair and I jammed my toe against the corner of the wall.  It was all I could do to not scream obscenities (being in the presence of my son and my parents and all).  I got to skate with the league in Bakersfield and in case you were wondering, skating (well, trying to skate) with a broken toe does not work very well.  That practice KICKED my butt and the side of my foot went numb!  Went to work on Thursday and had them take a picture of my toe - yep.  Broken.  So, I'm on orders to give my foot a break and even though I *really* don't want to, I didn't go to practice on Saturday and I probably won't skate tonight.  Having a broken toe sucks WAY more than I thought it would.  LOL

So, there ya go.  You're updated.  I missed you all and can't wait to get back to blogging.  Cross your fingers that I didn't really explode my computer.

Tag: What Would You Rather...?

Happy weekend, Kitschies!  I hope you're enjoying some down time this weekend.  It's been kinda busy here at our house.  We have our bestie's oldest son over for a sleep over.  He and Nate are arguing over how to play Lego Batman - you should hear them!!  Earlier, they had fun out in the pool in the backyard.  Even Mason got in on the action for a little while.  After a dinner of homemade pizza (thanks, hubs) and more S'mores than an adult should be allowed to eat, I'm about done.

I saw this little meme over at Libby's Pink Vanity a couple days ago and Kimberly mentioned that she thought I should play along...so I am!

1) Would you rather lose all of your mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks, and lip-glosses or lose all of your palettes and eye shadows?
Oooh...that's a hard one!  I think I'd rather lose my shadows because you can make yourself look made up with everything else.  You don't *have* to have shadow.

2) Would you rather chop off all your hair or never be able to cut it again?
I'd rather chop it all off.  My hair is already pretty short, so what's a little less?

3) Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek?
Pink.  Coral doesn't really work well with my skin tone - too much yellow already.

4) If you had $1000 to spend, would you rather buy clothes or makeup?
You're seriously going to make me choose?!  I guess I would have to say clothes because I already have quite a bit of makeup (I'm including nail polish in that).  But...I would love it to be a 70/30 split (the larger being for clothes).

5) Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner or eyeliner as lipstick?
I think I'd rather do lipstick as eyeliner because eyeliner as lipstick would be too thick.  Though lipstick as liner would probably smear/crease pretty easily.  Either way, not a good choice.

6) Would you rather only shop at MAC or Sephora?
Sephora!  MAC is too expensive and Sephora has a much larger selection.

7) Would you rather only use one eye shadow color or one lip color the rest of your life?
One lip color.  Why?  Because I really only have one lip color (just ask the bestie).

8) Would you rather wear winter clothes in summer or summer clothes in winter?
I'd rather do summer clothes in winter because you can pile lots of layers to make you warm enough.  You can only get so naked.

9) Would you rather have dark nails or bright nails all year round?
Either?  But, if I had to chose, I guess I would go with bright nails because you can do more stamping and art on top of the brights than the darks.  Though holos *are* pretty damned awesome.  But...I think I like darker vampy colors more.  Confusing much?

10) Would you rather give up your favorite lip product or your favorite eye product?
Favorite lip product.  I don't use lip stuff all that much anyway.

11) Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a ponytail or a messy bun?
Messy bun...it looks better for a wider range of circumstances.

There are no set rules for tagging people, so I tag whoever wants to play along!

A Quick Update

Hello, bloggy buddies!  Just a quick update for you so you don't think I've disappeared off the face of the Earth.

I'm visiting my parents in California this week.  We've had such a great trip so far.  We got together with extended family and family friends for a joint birthday for Nate and Mason on Sunday.  Went to LA for an awesome concert and then a mind-blowing Tim Burton exhibit at LACMA and lunch with my sister and BIL.  Today we're back at home base and hiding out indoors because it's HOT!

We'll be heading home on Saturday and though I'm not looking forward to leaving my family, I am looking forward to sleeping in my own bed!  So, if I don't comment on your blog, it's not because I don't love you anymore, because I do, it's because I'm busy soaking up the warm California sun!!  I'll be back in the swing of things next week.

Hope you're enjoying your week and aren't working too hard!  See you soon.

Roadtrippin

Good day, Kitschies!  I hope you're surviving the week.  I'm starting to count down the hours til we leave for California early Saturday morning!  And, of course, it's been kinda busy at work today, so I haven't had much time for a post.

Since I've given you two manis this week, I figured I'd switch it up a bit and show you what I have planned for me and the hubs for one of the days/evenings of our vacay.  This is a little thing I put together to present to the hubs for the anniversary of our first date.

Dear hubs,

We've had another busy year and June 5th marks our 7th wedding anniversary.  Since you planned a special getaway for our last anniversary, it's my turn to plan something special just for us.  So...pack your bags,
we're taking a road trip down to...
to see...
(Brendan Perry) at the...
(El Rey Theatre).  And then we're spending the night ...all by ourselves...at
a cute little boutique hotel near the theater.  Then for lunch on Tuesday, we're meeting up with
(Chicken and Ryan) for lunch!  After a peaceful (read: sans kids) visit, we'll head back to beautiful...
see our beautiful
and finish out our trip in whatever way you'd like.
(Grandma & Beba) have already agreed to watch the boys overnight and are excited to have them both to themselves for a little while.  We'll ask them how they felt after the fact, though.

So...let's get through the next couple busy months and then have some fun in the warm California sun!

I gave this to the hubs in March - I've been dying to get to this trip for MONTHS!!  And now, it's just a few days away.  While I'm not looking forward to the drive (thank jeebus for the portable DVD player), I am definitely looking forward to seeing my family and getting away with the hubs, if only for a day.

Plug Your Blog

Good day, dear readers!  I've seen this on some blogs around the block lately, and I thought I'd join in.

Here is your chance to plug your blog.

I don't care what kind of blog you have, I enjoy a large variety (nails, family/mommy, cooking, geek, etc).  So, even if I follow, or even if you're usually just a lurker on my blog, take a second and leave me a link to your blog.  And if I do follow your blog (and you *know* for a fact I do), leave me a link of one of your favorite blogs.

I love finding new blogs and what better way to find them than with a little help from my friends, right?

I Got Nuthin

Happy Friday!!  It's super busy today and I haven't had any time to sit and do my own thing at work today.  Bummer, huh?  Anyway...I thought I'd share one of my favorite songs with you today.  The video is the suck, but the song is awesome.  Enjoy!

Wow...could YouTube have gotten a *worse* freeze frame? Seriously. Happy weekend!

Ten on Tuesday: What's in a name?

I saw this little meme on Myya Says... and since I didn't post yesterday, I thought I'd grace y'all with my presence twice today to make up for my absence yesterday.  So, here are 10 questions for you!

1.  How did your parents decide on your name?
They had never heard the name Megan before (or any derivative of it) and just happened to find it in a name book about a week before I was born.

2.  Do your initials (first, middle, last) spell out anything fun/funny?
Nope.  MMH.  Neither did my maiden initials: MMG.

3.  Did you take your middle name from childhood or did you take your maiden name as your middle name?  (If you're not married, what do you plan to do?)
My middle name is the same today as it's been since birth.  I was planning to take my maiden name as my middle name when I got married this time, but I didn't (though I can't remember why I didn't just do it).

4.  Did you, or will you, name your children thematically (ie, the same first letter, all the same origin, etc)?
Kind of.  My first son, Nathaniel, has the same first letter as his dad and my second son, Mason, has the same first letter as me.  And coincidentally, they're both named after characters from TV shows we really liked.  We didn't plan it, but both of those shows happen to be about death.  Nice, huh?

5.  Did you decide on baby names as a little girl?  Did you stick to them or change your mind?
I had decided on a name (I named my health class walnut and liked that name - it was a boy), but I changed it - thank jeebus!

6.  Does your family have any names that have been passed down through generations?
Yes!  My middle name (Marie) comes from both my grandmothers.  Nathaniel's middle name (Edward) is the same as the hubs' and his grandpa.  Mason's middle name (Gregory) is my Dad's first name.

7. Do you look at the meaning of a name or just the name itself?
Both, though if the meaning of the name is bad, I probably wouldn't pick it.

8.  Do you name pets with human names (Sally, Henry) or with pet names (Fluffy, Mr BoBo)?
More like characters than actual names (Tor, Tyr - both Norse gods, Jabba).

9.  Are there any names that you have an affinity or dislike of based on a childhood experience/someone you once knew?
Totally!!  There are a couple names that were crossed off the list before the list was even started because I didn't want to be constantly reminded of that person when I said my child's name.

10.  What are some of your favorite names?  Why?
We had a girl name picked out with both pregnancy and really like both of them.  Natalie (Nat for short) and Madeline (Maddie).  Why do I like them?  They're pretty and I like the short versions, too.

Do You Want to Play a Game?

*said in my best computer voice*

Good morning, Kitschies!!  I was trolling blogs before I went to bed last night and I saw this cool "game" on IROCKSOWHAT.  She didn't tag me, but I decided to grab it, do it myself, and pass it on to a fellow blogger, or two (or 5).

Answer these 8 questions in your own handwriting.

*click to big*

1.  What is your name?  And your blog?
2.  What's your blog URL?
3.  Write: The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.
4.  Favorite quote.
5.  Favorite song?
6.  Favorite band/singers?
7.  Say anything you want.
8.  Pass this along to a few bloggers.

I love doing things like this.  And since this one is more "personal", I liked it even more!!  I hope you ladies participate and pass it on, too.  Oh, and if you want, you can borrow it from me like I borrowed it from Jess.

What About Me?

Good morning, Kitschies!  It's Friday - finally.  After my super easy week at the clinic last week, it feels like this week has dragged on forever.  *sigh*  And I know it's Friday, but it just doesn't *feel* like Friday to me and I just can't get excited for the weekend.  I hope it changes by the time the day is over because I want to enjoy my weekend.  I want to enjoy the time I spend with the hubs and my boys.  C'mon, Megan!  Get your butt in gear.

Back in early January (see...I told you I was behind), Sara over at Unofficial Mom shared a "Mosaic About Me" which she stole from another fellow blogger.  I liked it, so I stole it from her.  LOL  Isn't it nice how we're all so comfortable with each other that we can steal things off their plate?  Here are the rules.

Do a Flicr/Photobucket/whatever search for the answer to each of the following questions.

1. What is your first name?
2. What is your favorite food?
3. What is your favorite color?
4. Favorite drink?
5. Dream vacation?
6. Favorite hobby?
7. What you want to be when you grow up?
8. What do you love most in life?
9. One word to describe you?

I liked what I found and put it together...wanna see...?

*click to appreciate the awesomeness of my collage* I'm giving you express written consent to steal this from me.  The only catch is that if you do, I wanna see what you come up with!

Ugh...things at the office just turned crazy (again), so I have to get back in to work mode.  Enjoy your weekend!

Hearts & A Smile *pic heavy*

TGIF, Kitschies!!  Do you have big plans for the coming weekend?  Do you get Monday off for President's Day?  I don't have a whole lot going on this weekend other than a haircut *squee* and a birthday party for my nephew.  Other than that, we're supposed to have rain on and off so I don't think we'll get outside like I'd like.

I know I'm a little late to the party to share my VDay mani with you; better late than never, right?  I had just finished my Two Weeks of Pink manis and it was time for a change!!  I still stayed with a traditional VDay color.

This beauty of a red creme is Zoya Alix.  The Zoya website describes Alix as a vibrant medium true mid-tone red with a glossy creme finish and I agree.  This is one HOT red - not too bright, not too dark.  Just awesome sexy red.  I love this color but I have a love/hate relationship with red.  It's a total PIA to clean up and remove AND if it chips even one teeny tiny place, it *has* to come off.  Am I alone in this?

After trolling My Simple Little Pleasures, I saw her tutorial for this cute nail art and had to give it a try.  I started off with alternating white and red nails but I couldn't get the white to look just right so I gave up and went with all red.

Collette at MSLP does great tutorials (awesome water marbles) - if you have some time, you should definitely check her blog out.

We were up in the mountains on VDay where there was *plenty* of snow.  You know I *had* to take a picture against the stark white of the snow.

Now for the fun!  The hubs and I had a rare kid-less day together.  What did we do?  Like a couple of teenagers, we went sledding!!

The hubs caught some air!

I got a nice action shot of *him*, you'd think he could've done the same for me. *sigh*

But, he did get a decent close-ish shot of me.  Like my knit cap?  He gave that to me "just cuz" a couple months ago and I <3 it.

After we'd had enough sledding, we went for a little hike up on the peak.  Lots of snow!  I stepped off the path and sank to my KNEES!!  Lesson learned.

The view was awesome!!  This is looking southeast from the top of the mountain.  The city you see in the distance is Albuquerque.

Awww...the two lovebugs.  It was pretty warm, considering it's still only February and there was so much snow around.

I like this one because I didn't mean to get the hubs in the background...I was trying to take a pic of myself.  LOL  Yay for happy accidents!

A big thank you to my hubs - I had such a great time!  I used to not like VDay (for a couple reasons) but he's changed my mind on this.  He goes out of my way each VDay to make sure we enjoy it.

I will announce the winner of my giveaway either tonight or some time this weekend, so be sure to keep an eye out!  Have a good weekend and if you're traveling for the long holiday weekend, be safe!

My Top 10: Eye Candy

Good evening, Kitschies!  It was a long, busy day at work.  I can't really complain, though, because it was my first day back since last week!  Anyway, I'm pretty tired and couldn't think of what to post.  Until I found an eye candy-filled post over at Myya Says...  Looks like a perfect pick-me-up kind of post, so I told her I was going to steal her idea and she gave me the thumbs up.

The idea behind this post is to showcase our top 10 celebrity crushes.  It reminds me of that Friends episode where the created The List.  As a matter of fact, the hubs and I (we were still dating), sat down at dinner and made our List.  Too bad I don't still have our List - it would be interesting to see how it's change.  Now on to the list, shall we?  These are generally in no particular order with the exception of the first 3.

I first fell in love with him in Six Feet Under as Nate.  Was heartbroken when I realized he was in Albuquerque filming The Lost Room and I didn't get to see him.  Then I followed him through the horrible Dirty, Sexy, Money.  And now I get my Peter Krause fix watching him on Parenthood.

I think the first time I saw Edward Norton was in American History X (hot).  And I've liked him in pretty much everything I've seen him in since (including Death to Smoochy).

It's gotta be the hair.  Seriously.  Cuz it ain't the glasses!

Now, this is where it gets a little more difficult.  The top 3 I could come up with in my sleep - the next 7 I actually have to think about.

Brad Pitt (circa Meet Joe Black)

Dood! You know what I just realized?  I totally have a thing for hot hair!  Seriously...look at all of them - they all have that touseled, just-rolled-out-of-bed hair.  Wow.

OK.  That's enough eye candy for me tonight.  I think I'm going to get my Eric Dane fix now (read: gonna watch Grey's).
