It snowed last year too: I made a snowman and my brother knocked it down and I knocked my brother down and then we had tea. ~Dylan Thomas
I am very lucky to be Mom to Nate (almost 4) and Mason (1). Our computer is set to run a slideshow of pics we have stored before it goes to sleep. We usually watch them scroll by and Nate will say "that's me" or "that's Mason" as they cycle through. However, it seems the older they're getting, the harder it gets for me to remember which baby picture belongs to which boy. I decided to do a little comparison and reflect on what the boys were doing and how old they were when the pictures were taken. I know you don't enjoy seeing my boys as much as I do, but it's still pretty amazing to see how similar they are (were).
We always thought it was funny that Nate would sleep with his hands up - until we saw Mason doing the same thing. Especially early on, they'd wiggle and worm their way out of their baby burrito just so they could get their arms up. Mason doesn't do that too much now, but Nate does it to this day. Both of these pictures were taken when they were less than a month old.
I got this cute little Dalmation outfit as a hand-me-down from a close friend. We had record snow fall in January 2007 and that's when I snapped this picture of Nate - he was about 6 months old. I love his cute little side smile. One day in February 2010, I remembered this outfit and thought it would be cute to get a picture of Mason in the same outfit. He was about 8 months old.
Now this is where you can really start telling the boys apart. In this comparison, Nate is 6 or 7 months old and Mason is about 6 months old. Nate has much lighter hair and a lot more of it! It's amazing how you can throw the same exact DNA together and come up with a totally different outcome every time. Nate has gorgeous blue & green eyes. Mason has beautiful blue eyes that are going to stand out against his darker hair and more olive complexion. Mason definitely looks more like my side of the family. Nate absolutely is a mini-me version of my husband (but has my attitude).
Ahhh...bath time. Nate really ever liked baths all that much. Oh, how he'd scream when he was little tiny in that little bath! He's a little better now, but he's no fish. Mason, on the other hand, loved bath time. He rarely cried during baths, even as an itty bitty guy. He didn't care for being in the big tub the first time, but ever since then, he loves it! He loves being in the kiddy pool and the tub and he gets upset when we take him out. They were both about 7 months in these pictures.
Happy birthday!!! The major difference at this point isn't anything pictured here. Nate started walking at about 10 1/2 months. Mason, at 12+ months, hasn't decided to take up that sport. Other than that at their first birthday, they're pretty similar. They both ate as much as they possibly could and they'd eat pretty much everything you'd give them (Nate now not so much). They both love Baby Einstein and they sleep very well.
And one more comparison for the road. These are my favorite pictures of the boys at their first birthday. Nate ate so much cake and so much sugar he practically went in to a sugar coma. I was afraid that frosting would stain and leave him looking like Violet from Willy Wonka, but it washed off no problem. Mason was a little more reserved (consistent with his nature so far) but managed to get it all over himself. After the initial wipe-down, Mason looked a little like a mini Hulk.
Thank you for walking down memory lane with me. It'll be fun to do a comparison like this again next year! Enjoy the rest of your weekend, my dear readers.

Such precious boys - I miss my grandsons. They change so much but are definitely their own person. Thank you for letting me go down memory lane!
What a cute comparison! :)
Awwww!!! Suddenly I'm dying to do this too!
Thanks, ladies!! I'm glad you enjoyed the post because I had a lot of fun rummaging through tons of pics. @ Becky - you should do it! It's amazing to see how alike but different they are in similar pictures.
